CHALLENGE:
The in-game editor has a limit of entities the designer can place. Being limited by the in-game editor, it teached me how to adapt my designs based on the limitations i am dealing with while maintaining my design intentions.
DESIGN INTENTIONS:
-
Making sure the player sees the exit door as soon as he starts the level was really important to let him know immediately where his final objective is.
-
Simplicity: Constructing fun gameplay using a few simple ingredients found in the main game to give the player the opportunity to think how to combine them with his portal abilities, rather than overwhelming him with too many different ingredients at the same time for the sake of difficulty.
-
Introducing a unique mechanic as the first challenge, teaching the player that he can carry a cube across a grating and avoid any fizzler on his way.
-
The hub provides a good view of the exit door, as well as the two cube buttons required to activate the light bridge in the middle. The goal of the glass panels had two objectives:
-
1. Allowing the player to see what is needed to activate the light bridge in the center when he first enters the hub.
-
2. Allowing the player to see his progress when he places his first cube and seeing the light bridge appear when he places the second cube on the cube button.
